There are a number of factors that come into play when pricing Australian products, and yes the Australian dollar is one of them. Right now (August 2019) if you are buying a product out of the USA you need to add about 45% to the US price to convert it to Australian dollars.
The prices in the USA are quoted before tax, as different states have different tax rates, so the tax is applied at the check out.
Taking some random products for comparison, if you purchased Liquid BioCell Pure for example, it sells for $69.99 + tax in the USA, which is approximately $102.90 + tax equivalent in AUD, so our price is actually lower at $95 GST inclusive for the product in Australia.
Another example is Body Butter which sells for $20.99 + tax in the USA which is $30.87 + tax in Australia dollars, we sell it for $25.15 tax inclusive in Australia.
Hand wash in the USA is $6.49USD + tax which is $9.55 + tax in Australia dollars, we sell it for $9.95AUD GST inclusive so not dissimilar.
There are several additional costs which we need to bear, the first being shipping to Australia, then on arrival we have to pay all of the port charges and duties. Then there is the warehouse and distribution costs which are more expensive in Australia. Salaries are also higher on average in Australia, our electricity is way more expensive, as is our rent and general expenses.
The truth is, it all adds up.
We are conscious of our pricing, and do our very best to ensure that they are competitive taking into account all of the additional costs that we have to bear.
